Day 1: Arrival in Luang Prabang

Upon arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport, complete the immigration and customs formalities. You will then meet your Asiatica Travel guide and be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy free time to relax or explore the city at your own pace, without a guide or driver. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 2: Luang Prabang City Tour

After breakfast, start your city tour with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, home to a fascinating collection of historical artifacts. Next, admire the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, a stunning example of traditional Laotian architecture, with its distinctive sloping roof.

Continue to Wat Mai and the Wat Visoun stupa before visiting the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center, where you’ll gain insight into the diverse ethnic groups of Laos, their customs, and traditions.

In the afternoon, explore the craft villages of Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek, renowned for their fine textiles and silk weaving. End the day with a scenic climb to the summit of Mount Phousi, where you'll discover the golden stupa and enjoy a breathtaking sunset view over Luang Prabang and the Mekong River. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou - Kuang Si - Luang Prabang

Wake up early this morning to witness the Tak Bat, the sacred Buddhist almsgiving ceremony, a centuries-old tradition that is still an integral part of daily life in Luang Prabang. Before returning to the hotel for breakfast, you’ll have the chance to explore a local morning market.

After breakfast, visit the Phousi Market, where you can find dried buffalo skin, local tea, fresh vegetables, and traditional textiles from ethnic tribes. Then, head to Ock Pop Tok, a cultural center where you’ll learn about the traditional silk-making process.

Next, visit a Hmong village before continuing to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear pools or take a leisurely walk along the lush forest trails. Near the waterfalls, you can also visit the Bear Rescue Center, which protects endangered Asiatic black bears. Return to Luang Prabang before lunch.

In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat cruise along the Mekong River to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha statues. On the way back to Luang Prabang, stop at Ban Nongxai village, known for its exquisite local handicrafts. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Tip: Bring a towel and a change of clothes if you plan to swim in the natural pools at Kuang Si Waterfalls

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Phonsavan

At around 8:00 AM, we will begin our journey that will take us to the town of Xieng Khuang, famous for its Plain of Jars. The road we travel today is considered one of the highlights of the country, offering unique natural panoramas, and along the way, we will stop at several ethnic minority villages that populate this region. The first stop is at Houi Hei, where you can enjoy an extraordinary viewpoint. We then continue our journey with a stop at Ban Kiu Kam Pone, a Khmu village.

Shortly after lunch, we resume our journey toward Xieng Khuang. The road will lead us to the highest point reachable in Laos, at 1,500 meters above sea level. The next stop will be at Ban Son Boom, a fascinating Hmong village. The final stop of the day is a visit to a Buddha Cave that served as a refuge for the local population during the Vietnam War, protecting them from bombardments. We will arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 5: Phonsavan - Muang Khoun - Plain of Jars

We begin our day with a visit to the fascinating MAG Exhibition, which provides insight into the history of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Laos.

Next, we travel to the ancient capital of Muang Khoun, known for its historical ruins and remnants of old temples. Afterward, we visit Site 2 of the Plain of Jars, followed by Site 3, both offering a glimpse into this archaeological mystery.

In the afternoon, we explore Site 1, the largest and most impressive, home to over 300 jars.

We return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight in hotel.

Day 6: Phonsavan - Vang Vieng

Our morning begins with a visit to the colorful Central Market of Phonsavan, where locals trade fresh produce, textiles, and handicrafts.

We then set off towards Vang Vieng, a picturesque town surrounded by limestone mountains and lush landscapes.

After lunch, we stop at Ban Hin Ngon, a fascinating Hmong village, to learn about the culture and traditions of this ethnic minority.

Next, we visit the Koe Kuang Market, a local market where a variety of unique goods, including reptiles, are sold.

Our final stop before reaching Vang Vieng is the Phatang Mountain Viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

We arrive in Vang Vieng in the late afternoon. Overnight in hotel.

Day 7: Vang Vieng - Vientiane

Our half-day tour in Vang Vieng begins with a visit to the famous Tham Jang Cave, which served as a hiding place for locals during the Chinese invasion.

After exploring the cave, we continue our journey south towards Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

On the way, we stop at Tha Heua, a small village known for its dried fish market, where fish is displayed outside almost every house.

Next, we visit Nam Ngum Lake, a vast artificial reservoir surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Just outside Vientiane, we make our final stop at the Don Makai Market, famous for selling all kinds of insects - an adventurous snack for the brave!

We arrive in Vientiane in the late afternoon. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 8: Vientiane City Tour

After breakfast, we begin our city tour with a visit to Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in Vientiane, famous for its thousands of miniature Buddha statues. We then explore Wat Prakeo, the former royal temple that once housed the revered Emerald Buddha.

Next, we visit That Luang Stupa, one of Laos’ most significant cultural and religious landmarks, before heading to the impressive Patuxay Monument, also known as the Arc de Triomphe of Vientiane.

Our journey continues at COPE, a rehabilitation center supporting victims of unexploded ordnance (UXO) from the Vietnam War - one of the country's most pressing issues today.

In the afternoon, we take a 30-minute drive to Buddha Park, located along the Mekong River, where you can admire an intriguing collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures.

The day concludes with a breathtaking sunset over the Mekong River. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 9: Vientiane - Pakse - Tadlo

After breakfast, transfer to Vientiane Airport for your flight to Pakse.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to the Bolaven Plateau, a cool highland region overlooking the Mekong Valley.

Our first stop is Houey Ten, a village known for its traditional knife and blade-making craftsmanship. We then visit a tea plantation, followed by the stunning Tad Fan Waterfall.

Continuing our journey, we stop at a coffee plantation before exploring the Tha Teng market, where ethnic minorities sell their vibrant produce. Next, we visit Ban Bong Neua (Alak village) and Ban Kokphung (Katu village), the latter known for its unique tradition of keeping coffins beneath houses.

In the afternoon, we arrive at Tadlo, home to another beautiful waterfall, where you can relax or swim in the natural pools. Overnight in Tadlo.

Day 10: Tadlo - Wat Phou - Don Khong

This morning, we visit the Paxuam Waterfall before heading to Wat Phou, a magnificent pre-Angkorian temple and one of the most remarkable religious sites in Southeast Asia. Originally a Khmer outpost, it later became an important Buddhist sanctuary. The structures date back to the 11th century, although the site has been sacred since the 5th century. The temple complex is built at the base of Mount Phou Khao, revered for its resemblance to a Linga (phallic symbol).

After lunch (at leisure), we continue our journey towards the 4,000 Islands region. We arrive at Don Khong in the afternoon. Overnight in Don Khong.

Day 11: Don Khong - Don Khone - Champasak

After breakfast, we board a traditional boat to explore the 4,000 Islands. Our first stop is Don Khone Island, where we explore by bicycle. Highlights include French colonial houses, the first Lao railway station, and its old locomotive. We then visit Liphi Waterfall (also known as Samphamith), a natural border between Laos and Cambodia.

Next, we return to the mainland by boat and travel by road to Khone Phapeng Waterfalls, the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, also called the "Niagara of the East."

In the afternoon, we drive to Ban Muang, where we take a ferry to Champasak. Overnight in Champasak.

Day 12: Champasak - Pakse Departure

After breakfast, enjoy free time at your leisure. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Pakse Airport for your return flight to Italy. Hotel check-out by noon.
